South Carolina State University Foundation Highlights Growth, Stewardship, and Impact in Annual Report

Orangeburg, S.C. — October 27, 2025 — The South Carolina State University (SCSU) Foundation has released its 2024 Annual Report, underscoring a year of meaningful progress in scholarship support, institutional advancement, and governance excellence.

The Foundation continues to build on its mission to transform generosity into opportunity through scholarships, endowed positions, and capital improvements that strengthen South Carolina’s only public Historically Black College and University (HBCU).

“This year’s Annual Report reflects the Foundation’s deep commitment to both tradition and transformation,” said Stephen Beatty, Chair of the SCSU Foundation Board of Trustees. “We stand at an important inflection point, honoring those who built this institution while shaping a future defined by innovation, stewardship, and opportunity. Our 4-Star Charity Navigator rating reinforces that excellence in governance and transparency is not merely an aspiration, it is our standard.”

Among the year’s highlights were major advancements in student housing and donor engagement:

  • The Railroad Crossing Student Housing Initiative expanded capacity and strengthened access for students.
  • The Annual Gala once again served as a cornerstone of fundraising, generating more than one-fifth of scholarship funds while uniting the community around a shared purpose.
  • The Foundation also refined its strategic priorities, enhanced governance practices, and prepared for leadership transitions to ensure sustained impact and institutional continuity.

“The Foundation’s progress this year is a direct reflection of our partners’ generosity and our team’s commitment to excellence,” said Lorne Steedley, Executive Director of the South Carolina State University Foundation. “We are proud of what we’ve accomplished and even more excited about what lies ahead as we continue to support student success and strengthen SCSU’s legacy of leadership.”

Chartered in 1971, the South Carolina State University Foundation plays a vital role in supporting the University’s mission by managing endowment funds, stewarding donor contributions, and advancing resources that strengthen academic programs and student achievement.
