The South Carolina State University Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization established in 1971. It is legally independent from the University and operates exclusively for the benefit of South Carolina State University. The Foundation’s primary role is to receive, manage, invest, and steward private philanthropic assets in alignment with donor intent and in support of the University's mission.
The Foundation currently manages over 500 individual accounts on behalf of donors and institutional programs, providing strategic financial oversight to scholarships, endowed funds, restricted grants, and capital priorities. Its Board of Directors holds a fiduciary responsibility to ensure sound investment practices, transparency, and compliance with IRS, FASB, UPMIFA, and other applicable guidelines.
Board service is a serious responsibility that includes both governance and fundraising. We are seeking committed, skilled leaders to help us advance our current priorities, which include:
· Strengthening governance and board oversight
· Increasing fundraising capacity and donor engagement
· Improving data and procedural infrastructure
Board members are expected to attend meetings annually (a mix of virtual and in-person), participate in one in-person summer retreat, serve on a committee, and support the Foundation’s fundraising efforts—including making a meaningful annual contribution.
To be considered, please complete the nomination form and upload a current resume or bio no later than Friday, June 27, 2025.
We appreciate your interest in supporting South Carolina State University through board service. If you have any questions about the nomination process or the role of the Foundation, please feel free to contact our office at SCSUFoundation@scsu.edu or (803) 516-4722.
