The South Carolina State University Foundation, formerly known as the South Carolina State College Educational Foundation, has a rich history that spans over three decades. Establishment and Name Change

 

After three decades of operation, the South Carolina State University Foundation underwent a significant change, resulting in a name change that better reflected its broader mission. Originally established as the South Carolina State College Educational Foundation, the foundation eliminated the word ‘Education’ to align with its goal of serving more than just the educational needs of the university.

Led by John D. Bates, M. Maceo Nance, Jr., and Nonie L. Smith, this group of prominent citizens within the community came together with a shared vision to support the university in reaching its educational goals.
